On a warm evening Cardiff played a full 90 minute friendly against regular opposition CSKA, the match taking place at Blackweir playing fields.
The first half was an even affair as both sides had plenty of possession but failed to make many clear cut chances . The Dragons had much play in and around the CSKA area in the opening quarter but were limited to mainly long range efforts and a couple of dangerous crosses from good wing play by Hywel and John A and solid performances in the middle by Anthony, Ed and Sam. At the other end CSKA had a good opportunity but their forwards firm shot was well parried away by Dragons keeper Kris L. The opening goal of the game resulted when the home defence was slow to react following a foul throw and as the ball found its way into the area it was finished low into the corner by CSKA’s centre forward. There was no further scoring in the first half as CSKA went in 1-0 ahead.
The Dragons made some changes at half time to allow everyone a game and some further experience. The second half also began brightly for the Dragons and they were rewarded with a deserved equaliser on the hour. Some good link up play down the left saw a testing cross well converted by Louis from close range. At this stage the Dragons looked good for at least a draw but a few minutes after the equalising goal an inspired strike from the corner of the box restored the lead for CSKA. The Dragons were unlucky not to earn a penalty as they again pressed forward but the game was sewn up when CSKA added a third goal late on.
