GFC Bournemouth 1 – 0 Cardiff Dragons

The Dragons travelled down to play Bournemouth at Southampton in the latest South West League fixture.

It may sound strange but yes we played Bournemouth in Southampton in a development game. Muzz wanted to ensure that as it was a development game every squad member travelling got a minimum 60 minutes game time.

The Dragons lined up as follows:-

Mark, Muzz (Manager), Anthony (Capt), John A, Darren, Paul, Aris, Kris, Luke, Dai , Stefan.

Subs: Jason, Richie, Chris.

Both sides had corners within the first few minutes. Dai then took a knock with resulted in a cut above his nose. Richie replaced him while he was off having runing repairs. Dai being as brave as many Dragons before him wanted to return to the action asap but The Amos being over protective was not so sure but the bravery of Dai prevailed and he returned to the pitch Richie coming back off.

Bournemouth started applying a lot of pressure over the next 25 minutes and Mark in the Dragons goal was called into action on a number of occassions to enure The Dragons did not conceed.

Having said that the Dragons were keeping their shape and were battling hard. Aris and Daren were replaced by Richie and Jason. The game was being played in midfield and both sides were defending well on their 18 yard lines.

Chris making a welcome return to The Dragons after moving up to Leicester replaced Luke who was suffering from a pulled muscle.

That took us up to half time and it remained 0-0.

In the 2nd half John A replaced Mark in goal.

The game was getting a little scrappy in parts but both sides were battling hard.
John A made a couple of fine stops to keep The Dragons in the game. Anthony then made a vital goal line clearance.

Muzz then replaced Dai and Kris who had both battled hard all game with Aris & Luke. It was not long after this that Bournemoth scored the what turned out to be the only goal of the game from a ball played into The Dragons box that was headed on into the Dragons goal giving John A no chance.

The final change of the game was Daren coming back on to replace Richie.

The Dragons were not with out there chances in the last quater of the game with a fine ball being played by Stefan onto Mark whos shot went just over bar.

As already stated in a scrappy game it was never going to be The Dragons day they never gave up which is very encouraging but the goals dried up today.

Final score 1-0 Bournemouth.

The management team would like to thank everybody for making the trip to Southampton and to Bournemouth for there hospitality. Thank you to Jeremy for his support on the day and to Jason and Aris for running the line today.

Dragons Blues 2 – 5 Dragons Reds

On Sunday the Dragons training was a Blues v Reds in house match.

Christian and Amos selected the following teams:-

Blues: Amos, John A, Ryan, David K, Paul, Sam A, Hywel, Tommy, Aris, Adam, New Sam.

Reds: Christian, Muzz, John B, Jason, Leanne, Amy, Anthony, Simon D, Stefan, Simon E, Kris.

Playing on a very wet pitch and with light rain it was never going to be easy under food. One other obstacle being the river next to the pitch losing two match balls with the possibility of the game being abandoned due no footballs thank goodness we managed to keep our only other ball out of the river quite a skill for the defenders haha!!!!!!!!!!!!.

It was the Blues who struck first a solo run through the Red defence by Aris led to a fine finish by him. 1-0 Blues.

There was a lot of play in the center of the park. Both defences were having fine games.

It was a cross come shot by Jason that beat Amos in the Blues goal the ball going in off Amos own goal to him. 1-1 Although he did make up for that error 10 minutes later with a fine save from Kris. With new Sam having to come off with an injury the Blues played on with 10 men for the last 20 minutes of the first half. Half time 1-1

Second half and the Reds applied a lot of pressure to the 10 men of the Blues and it did not take long for Stefan to put the red 2-1 with a fine run on goal. It was not long before the Reds made it 3-1 Stefan again this time heading in a cross on the goal line.

With a man down the Blues were finding it hard but kept battling away. Aris then went off for the Blues so with them down to 9 Amy swapped sides and played for the Blues.

Both goal keepers were called into action after that making a few fine saves. The Reds then made it 4-1 with a bit of a defensive mix up Stefan running in again to score his 3rd of the game and complete his hat trick.

The Blues then made it 4-2 Paul scoring for them after some good team work.

Aris then came back on for the Blues making it 11 – 10 in players to Blues.

The final score of the game came from a corner Anthony playing the ball in low for Simon E to hit it through the keeper on the line.

Final Score 5-2 to the Reds.

Thanks to everyone for making it a very enjoyable afternoon.

Cardiff Dragons 4 – 2 Trowbridge Tigers

Dragon Goals: Mark 36mins, Simon E 40mins, Ed 51mins, Paul 64mins.

The Dragons came from 2 goals down to win this important GFSN league game and go top of GFSN Division 2.

The Dragons lined up as follows:-
Kris, Muzz (Manager), Anthony (Capt), Ryan, Jason, Paul, Ed, Hywel, Mark, Crispin, Simon E.
Subs: John A, Simon D, Darrin, Dai, Christian, David K.

It was the Dragons that applied all the early pressure today. It was great to see the passing movement throughout the team from the off.

All the early pressure was paying off as on 15 minutes Simon E was upended just outside the Tigers 18 yard box with earned a yellow to the offender.

Then against the run of play from a corner kick the Dragons had a lapse in defence and it was Jason who unfortunately while trying to clear the ball off the line put it in his own net 18 minutes. 1-0 The Tigers.

The Dragons never let going behind effect them and kept on pressing through the midfield to create chances with a header from Mark after some good work by Ed and Anthony just went over the bar on 30 minutes.

On 36 minutes the Tigers won a free kick some 30 yards out the resulting free kick was met by an unstoppable looping header which sailed into the Dragons net giving Kris in the Dragons goal no chance. 2-0 The Tigers.

From the restart Mark made a tantalising run down the left wing going past 4 defender to slot the ball into the bottom right corner of the Tigers net and great solo goal from the Dragons top scorer this season. 2-1 The Tigers 38 minutes.

On 40 minutes Crispin who was putting in a very solid performance up front holding up and playing some great balls on made a defence splitting pass to Anthony who knocked the ball onto Simon E who headed home with some power from 8 yards. 2-2.

There was still time in final few of the half for Simon who was having an excellent first half to shot just wide from distance. Half time 2-2.

Muzz kept things as they were for the second half as there was no need for any changes in personnel as the Dragons were having one of there best displays of the season so far.

That decision was proved right as on 51 minutes Ed picked up the ball just outside the 18 yard box and made a mazy run into the Tigers box fending off a number of tackles then slotting home from 6 yards 3-2 The Dragons.

It was all Dragons now on 54 minutes Anthony came close with a shot just off target. Muzz and Paul were very solid second half with both Ryan and Jason defending and getting forward well to support the midfield the Dragons were in complete control. On 60 minutes Muzz had a shot well saves by The Tigers keeper.

On 64 minutes after a scramble in the The Tigers 6 yard box Paul knocked the ball home from close range. 4-2 The Dragons.

The Tigers did gain a free kick some 25 yards out that was dealt with by the Dragons defence on 70 minutes.

On 75 minutes The Dragons were still pressing for more goals Mark just shooting wide from distance.

On 80 minutes Jason went off and was replaced by John A. Then on 83 minutes Simon D replaced Mark with Hywel who had put in a strong performance today moving to the left side with Simon D playing the right side, Muzz also replaced Simon E with Dai and finally Darrin replaced Crispin for the final few minutes.

Final score 4-2 to The Dragons.

All I can say is that this performance by The Dragons rates with our first ever league win against Brighton last season. Its reward for all the hard work Muzz and his team have been putting in this season.

Many thanks to Trowbridge Tigers for today for making it a very entertaining game.

We would like to thank both David K and Christian for running the line for us to day, also all the supporters Amy, Ali, Jordan, Adam it really does help having you on the side lines willing us on.
