Cardiff Dragons 3 – 0 Trowbridge Tigers

In a competitive but good spirited game played in difficult pitch conditions the Dragons came out on top against Trowbridge in what was the first ever 11-a-side game between the two clubs.
Playing against the wind and slight slope in the first half the Dragons did well to repel some early pressure from the visitors defending well to deal with a few corners in the first 15 minutes. At the other end the hosts soon got a foothold in the game and forced a couple of corners of their own but these too were dealt with well by the Trowbridge defenders. Clear cut chances were at a premium in the first half although the visitors managed a couple of on target efforts from just outside the area but these were well dealt with by Kris Llewellyn the home goalkeeper gathering one fierce effort and pushing another away from danger. The Dragons had plenty of play themselves in the Trowbridge half winning a lot of good ball and getting some joy down the wings with their best chance falling to Mark Biggs whose fierce cross shot from inside the box flew wide of the far post.
With the wind behind them in the second half the Dragons soon began to control the game and took the lead just before the hour  when Biggs was put through and clinically finished into the left corner of the net. Chris Crimmins then had a long range effort tipped round the post and another couple of clear chances followed for the Dragons but these were wide of the target. At 1-0 the visitors were still well in the game.and had an excellent chance to equalise midway through the half when their centre forward was put through on goal but his shot was parried away well for a corner. This was to prove the best spell of the half but for Trowbridge but although they forced a couple of corners they failed to create any other clear chances. At the other end the Dragons continued to create regular opportunities and doubled their lead 15 minutes from the end when Crimmins curled in a shot from just inside the area. Five minutes later a 3rd goal followed when once again Crimmins found the net from a similar position, This was to be the end of the scoring with the Dragons earning a well deserved clean sheet with the team performing very well as a unit on the day. Thanks also to all the supporters who provided great encouragement to the team.
