Mersey Marauders 9 – 1 Cardiff Dragons

Sunday saw us play our third competitive game away against Mersey Marauders.

The game started cagily with both sides a bit cautious having never faced each other before, and the game was a fairly even affair with a couple of half chances for both sides going wide.

The Marauders opened the scoring on 15 minutes with a fine strike into the corner of the goal from 20 yards.

The pace of the Mersey started to cause problems and combined with excellent finishing and movement from their centre forward we soon found ourselves 3-0 down.

We did however have a lot of the ball ourselves with Edwin and Lucas being played in down the wings regularly and Matt holding up the ball well up front.

With Aris and Anthony working hard in midfield we created some good chances culminating in a goal from Matt after 25 mins. Another good chance followed, but the Marauders managed to scramble the ball away from the line and break quickly to score and make it 4-1 and soon after another good finish made it 5-1.

The last 15 minutes of the half saw us have more posession with Muzz striking the woodwork with a 25 yard shot and a some goalmouth scramles so on balance it was very diappointing to be so far behind at the break.

The second half again was very even and the score remained 5-1 for the first 25 minutes with both sides creating a couple of good chances.

Unfortunately injuries to Darren, Richard and Matt meant we had to change the shape of the team, and as well as introducing all the substitutes for a run, we lost our shape a bit and conceded four further goals in the last 20 minutes which was unfortunate as the football we played and attitute we showed on the day was not totally reflected in the scoreline.
